About
Us
Nickolyn, pictured left, helps raise
the chicks and collect the eggs at our farm, which is called
Laughing Hen, because at Nickolyn's insistence, none of our
chickens ever sees the chopping block.
Instead they retire to the back
pasture when their egg-laying years are over. And there they sit for the rest of
their days and do nothing but gossip and eat.
Laughing Hen is located on a six-acre
farm in rural Woodstock, Il. We're small, but we're part of the
growing world of
community supported agriculture
in which small, local farmers sell produce directly to
consumers via
subscription services
and farmers' markets.
As the USDA defines the concept:
"Typically, members or share-holders' of the farm or garden pledge
in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and
farmer's salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty
throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from
reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food
production."
All of our produce is grown naturally --
no chemicals or synthetic fertilizers --
and our eggs come from free-range laying
hens fed only organic feed.

And then there's Adia who
claims that when she clicks her magic shoes, the hens
lay colored eggs.
